Inexpensive ways to keep your fitness Goals

It’s that time again, we are all making our New Year’s Resolutions. You can’t not make a resolution right? Although admittedly I have not decided on mine yet, I do plan to continue my clean eating lifestyle and getting fit from last year.

We all know the vast majority of people make a goal to get fit in some way whether that’s by losing weight and or just toning up. I wanted to give a few tips I have discovered in the past while making my fit goals that will not break the bank. These can work for anyone especially if you do not want to waste a bunch of money on a gym membership.

For me working from home part time and being a Domesticated Goddess, I don’t have the extra funds to just throw away on Gym memberships and classes. It can get really pricy and I really HATE going to the gym. I have never been successful in the past when I’ve had a membership, I feel you have the people trying to put on a beauty pageant and judging you if you’re not glammed up. Or you have the men that are there just trying to meet these girls. I’m not saying everyone or every gym is that way, but its hard to find places where it’s a support system to help you succeed.

So if you are like me and you either don’t want to go to the gym or you may not have the funds to spend on a membership or expensive trainers try these tips.

  1. Utilize your smart phone: There are a lot of FREE apps out there you can use to help you meet your goals, from workout apps to meal planner apps. Just beware some are free to download but then you have in app purchases to get more workouts. One I like for the busy mom whether your a Domesticated Goddess or a Working Mom, is the 7 Minute Workout. We all get busy but 7 minutes a day is better than none! You got this!

2. Want a personal trainer?: Who doesn’t want a personal trainer, right? Then you find out the cost, and your excitement to get fit totally went out the window. Did you know there are free fitness channels on Youtube? Yes I said FREE!!! I accidently discovered this while looking for a music video or maybe you already knew this but I was ridiculously excited. One of my favorite channels is Popsugar Fitness, they have an awesome variety and they are fun in the videos. You can find anything though, from yoga to Pilates.

3. Invite a friend: Ok so you love tip #2 but don’t feel you can keep yourself going? Invite a friend over and do the fitness video together in your living room. If you both have small ones try to schedule it during nap time. Or if that doesn’t work trade of watching each others kids so you can each get you workout in that day. Your girlfriends are your biggest supporters and cheerleaders, be there for each other.

4. Workout Video Sharing: Start a video sharing program with your friends, we have all had those late nights were we let some infomercial talk us into buying the latest workout craze. Maybe there is one you wanted to try but don’t want to spend the money to buy them. See what your friends have and start a workout group where each week you trade off videos. This gives you variety plus you have a support group to keep each other going.

These are just a few simple inexpensive tips to keep you going for the New Year. I would love to hear your feedback and tips you have for everyone on keeping your fitness goals.

I’m back and ready to go

It’s been months since my last post, every week I would say ok next week I’ll get back on track but we all know how that goes.

Things have been crazy busy, I took on more work with job I’ve been doing but thankfully it still allows me to retain my status of a Domesticated Goddess. I work from home and it still allows me to have freedom.

So what will you be seeing from me, we’ll probably not blogging on a daily basis but you will see some fun things from a couple times a week. I have lots to share from fun parties I’ve thrown to vacations and of course challenges with raising a family and maintaining my sanity.

Hopefully I still have some followers, but it’s like starting over a bit when you take a big break and that’s ok. This blog was more for my escape than to make profit or anything to huge. I can’t wait to get back in touch with everyone and see what everyone has been up too.

Look forward to getting back to this!
Yours truly

The Domesticated Goddess

Quote of the week 23

It’s the first day of Spring so what’s more appropriate than having spring quotes. I’m so excited for the warm weather, I don’t know why I still live somewhere it’s cold. I hate the cold it makes me grumpy.

Can’t wait we are supposed to hit 70 degrees today. However living in Utah that’s short lived in springtime as it’s supposed to snow later this week. Oh well that’s Utah weather for you. But at least I know the warm is coming soon.

Happy first day of spring!!!!

Quote of the Week #19

IMG_0969

This is a few days late but better late than never. I love this quote and feel its very accurate with how I feel about my husband. We have been through so much in the past 10 years but through it all its always made us stronger. I don’t think we could have made it through if we didn’t consider each as a friend, an equal, as well as a partner.

If you read my post from last week you know my husband and I tend to like simple date nights at home without the kids. So for Valentine’s Day we decided to do just that instead of dealing with the crowds that go out.

It actually kind of started from this text my husband sent me about a week ago, one I couldn’t stop laughing but two I thought hey that could be fun. Disclaimer if you’re offended sorry get over it.

So yes my husband built us our very own tent fort for Valentine’s, and I put together some appetizers and alcohol. We kicked back and watched a movie and I’ll leave it at that.

So hopefully you all had a fun Valentine’s I know I did, LOL.

Oh, the conversations with kids

FullSizeRender

As any parent knows, you get asked some awkward questions by your children as they are growing up. Mostly we get our selves into this situations and are unprepared how to answer our kids, especially when they pipe up and ask you about something you said thinking your child was not listening. Yes this has happened a time or two in our house, and my husband and I usually manage to change the subject very quickly. Unless of course its something that truly needs to be explained.

Recently my son has been asking for a sibling, he really wants a little sister. We have told him a few times that unfortunately we will not be having any more kids. He brought it up again recently and asked me if I could get a baby in my tummy he really wants a little brother or sister. Well here is how the conversation went.

Me: sorry I can’t have any more babies
Madman: so how come you could only make one baby?
Me: well the things that make a baby don’t work anymore.(Really at this point I should have sent it over to my husband since its his parts that are no longer in service but I didn’t think I wanted to get to detailed on the birds and the bees yet)
Madman: what parts? Are there wires inside you? So you cut the blue wire and had me? Then there were no more wires?
Me: yes exactly no more wires (At this point I am trying not to die laughing at how he is explaining it)
Madman: so is there a pink wire for the girl you can cut?
Me: ah, no there’s no more
Madman: can I see? Where are the wires? Are they in your butt?

At his point I can barely compose myself from what my son has just said so I passed it off to my husband and told him to take over. He just said sorry there are no more wires and there won’t be anymore babies and my son just dropped it after that. What the heck? Why did I get the inquisition and not my husband? Oh well it was quite amusing but it definitely makes me scared to have to the sex talk with my son. I think I’ll leave that one to my husband when the time comes.

Have any funny stories about things yours kids have asked you, I would love to hear them! So please feel free to share below or maybe you have your own blog post you need to write.

Quote of the Week #18

marriage

With it being the month of love and Valentine’s Day approaching, I thought this quote was a good reminder for this week. I think so many times we forget when we are having a disagreement that it’s not about winning the agreement its about seeing both sides and talking through a problem and dealing with it together as a team. I think that’s something you definitely learn the longer you are married.

So remember your a team in a relationship, so this Valentine’s don’t forget to celebrate each other.

Simple Valentine’s Craft to add cheer

IMG_0859

I’m sure you are aware I like to get my craft on every now and again. I don’t have a lot of Valentine’s day décor, and I can’t seem to find anything I really like that I want to spend money on. So I decided to make a few inexpensive things to add to my décor, especially after taking all my Christmas décor down the house was feeling kind of sad and empty.

I first made this very simple very inexpensive Valentine’s Banner. I already had the scrapbook paper and my Silhouette Cameo to cut the banner for me. However if you don’t have a Silhouette no need to worry, most craft stores have banners pre-cut for you or you can cut your own from templates.

Once I cut the banner I measured some string to the length of the mantel on my fireplace, then used my paper punch to make holes for the string and presto! A cute festive banner, and it only took me about 45 minutes to make.

Second craft was this Valentine’s Deco Mesh Wreath, another easy project that only took about 90 minutes to make. You can find full instructions for this wreath at Michaels.com. Although I will say their instructions are not the greatest, luckily this is not my first wreath so I was able to get through this. If this is your first time making one, I would advise watch a tutorial on youtube. There is no right or wrong way to make these everyone does it just a bit differently.

Hope you like these two fun projects and share yours if you make some festive projects. I love seeing everyone’s creativity.
